We do not provide access for desktop usenet (news) clients. We have our own web based viewer. It's somewhat similar to "webmail" with threaded indexes of usenet messages. Our usenet viewer is setup for 'text only' messages. Binary groups may be read, however, you will need to use an external 'binary decoder' to decode the binary messages. Binary decoders may be found at your favorite shareware provider such as Tucows, Download.com, etc.
Your posts are pseudo anonymous, we don't tagged your IP address to outgoing messages. You also have the option of using various aliases (Cotse and non-Cotse) when posting.
Subscribe to Groups
To subscribe to newsgroups, login to www.cotse.net, click "Newsgroups" then click "Edit Subscribed Groups". From here, you have two options.
1) Type the name of the group (if you know the exact name) in the box on the left then click "Submit" or...
2) Type a portion of the name in the query box on the right. For example, you're looking for alt.computer.security, you could put "security" in the box on the right and then click "Search Newsgroups". A list of applicable groups will load. Copy/Paste the desired group to the list on the left, then click "Submit".
If the group you are looking for doesn't show in the list, we don't carry that group. If you by-pass the list query and manually type the group name into the list on the left and click submit, you'll know the group isn't carried if "Group" shows up instead of the number of posts.
If you find this "How To" in error or you have difficulties with the instructions, please email helpdesk@cotse.net.
